THE WEEK AT A GLANCE: Trip to Gonzaga, Ranked Third for Men’s Basketball Highlights Week at Tarleton Sports

It’s a quieter week than usual in terms of number of games on the schedule, but the competition will be at an all-time high.
Tarleton’s men’s basketball will take the ultimate test on Monday night, against No.3 Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash. Gonzaga had been ranked No.1 in the Associated Press’s Top 25 for the entire season until Monday following his loss to the then No.1. 5 Duke. The Texas women’s basketball will play its first game in a week on Saturday with a home game against Arlington Baptist. Sunday, the men’s team will close the week at Wisdom Gym against Charleston Southern.
PLAY THE BEST has so far been the theme of the Tarleton men’s basketball team. The Texans have faced two top 25 teams before and have fought in every game they have played against some of the best teams in the country. Monday at 9:00 p.m. CT, Tarleton will undergo his toughest test yet with a game against Gonzaga No.3 at the McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane, Wash. They were ranked No. 1 all season until Monday, after a three-point loss to the then No. 5 Duke. The Bulldogs have won 55 straight home games, a streak stretching back to Jan. 18, 2018. The Texans will need to play their best basketball to eliminate last year’s national finalists, an effort that could be spearheaded by Gipson watch, Tarleton’s leading scorer with 14.8 points per game. He’s scored over 10 points in every game this year and has played 217 of the possible 240 minutes for the purple and white. On Sunday, the Texans open a three-game home game against Charleston Southern at 7 p.m. CT at Wisdom Gym. This will mean the first time Tarleton has hosted a non-conference D1 opponent at home.
CONTINUE HOT START will be the goal of the Tarleton women’s basketball team on Saturday. The Texans are 4-2 this season, recording four straight wins before a tough fourth quarter against Western Illinois ended the winning streak. The Texans will host Arlington Baptist at 2:00 p.m. CT at Wisdom Gym, seeking to find their way back to victory. Tarleton has never lost to the Patriots, posting a 6-0 record dating back to 2013. The Purple and White’s average winning margin against Arlington Baptist is 39.7 points. Iyana Dorsey leads the team with 11.0 points per game. Malaysia Kendrick is averaging 8.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Tarleton’s starting point guard is tied for fourth in the WAC at that 8.8 RPG mark.
